Alright, let's talk about PBIS – it's basically our way of making Pūʻōhala School a super positive place for everyone. Think of it like this: we're all about teaching kids how to be awesome, instead of just focusing on what they shouldn't do. Loads of schools, like, over 18,000 of them, are using this stuff, and it's working! It helps create a calmer, safer vibe where everyone can actually focus on learning. We're aiming for that too, because we want all our students to thrive, both behavior-wise and academically.
So, a big part of PBIS is having clear expectations for how we all treat each other. We call them the 3 BEs:
Be Safe
Be Respectful
Be Responsible
You'll see these everywhere around our school, and we're constantly reminding the kids about them. Check out our Behavior Matrix to see what these 3BEs look like in action around our campus.
Want to help out at home? Super easy! Just ask your kiddo if they know what the 3 BEs are, and chat with them about how they can follow them at school and at home. It’s a kākou effort!
We've got a whole crew working on PBIS, too – our Poʻokumu, kumu/teachers, counselor, behavior specialist, school psychologist, and even some awesome makua/parents. We're all in this together!
If you want to see what we're doing and how you can help, talk to our counselors or Title I Coordinator for more information.
