Aloha and welcome to Pūʻōhala School.
We are located on the Windward side of Oʻahu in the state of Hawaiʻi, serving a student body of 254 students from Preschool through Grade 8. Our school also serves as a satellite school for Hawaiian Immersion students from grades 6-12.
To inquire about enrollment and the application process for your child, please contact the school office directly at (808) 305-5900.
Aloha Families,
We are writing to share an important update regarding enrollment for our Kula Kaiapuni (Hawaiian Language Immersion) program for the upcoming school year.
The Hawaii Department of Education will soon open the Kaiapuni Priority Placement Request (KPPR) period. This is the first step for any family seeking a seat in a Kaiapuni elementary program.
What You Need to Know Now:
The Window Opens Soon: The online request portal will officially open at 8:00 AM on the first business day of February (02/02/2026).
Who Should Apply: This process is for all families interested in immersion, including those currently outside our school’s residential district. Per State Law (HRS §302A-1143), students are not restricted by their home school district for Kaiapuni enrollment, and a Geographic Exception (GE) is not required.
Two-Step Process:
1. Online Request: Families must first complete the online priority placement form, which includes watching a mandatory informational webinar.
2. School Enrollment: Once placement is confirmed by the Office of Hawaiian Education (OHE) in May, families will then complete physical enrollment paperwork (such as the SIS-10W and health records) directly with the school.
Prepare for Commitment: Kula Kaiapuni offers a unique educational journey where all subjects are taught in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. We encourage interested families to begin discussing the high level of long-term commitment required to support their child’s language development at home.
What’s Next? On the morning the window opens, we will send a follow-up message containing the direct link to the KPPR form. Please note that priority is given to those who reside within our school's set boundaries.
If you have questions about the immersion environment or the curriculum before the window opens, please feel free to reach out to our office or visit the Kaiapuni DOE website HERE.
Mahalo,
