Pūʻōhala Elementary School in Kāneʻōhe, Hawaiʻi was established in 1967. Before major housing development in the mid-20th century, the area was a prime spot for farming and fishponds (loko iʻa).
In the 1980s, the Hawaiian language immersion programs were established to revitalize the Hawaiian language (ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi).
Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Pūʻōhala was the first Hawaiian Language Immersion Program in the Windward Public School District, which started in 1990. Pūʻōhala School | Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Pūʻōhala added on grade 7 Hawaiian Immersion in 2018-2019. Students enrolled in the Hawaiian Immersion School - Ke Kula Kaiapuni ʻo Pūʻōhala will continue on to grade 12 (planned for 2025-2026).
